Ontario Teachers’ appoints six new Managing Directors
With a focus on building great bench strength, Ontario Teachers' is pleased to announce the following six Managing Director appointments in the Investment Division:
- Maggie Fanari has been promoted to Managing Director, Teachers' Innovation Platform (TIP) and High Conviction Equities (HCE)
- Kevin Mansfield has been promoted to Managing Director, Consumer & Retail
- Blake Sumler has been promoted to Managing Director, Industrials
- Ashvin Malkani has been promoted to Managing Director, Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT), based in London
- Jeff Markusson has been promoted to Managing Director, Financial Services
- Terry Woodward has been promoted to Managing Director, Healthcare
Maggie Fanari is responsible for supporting the build of the global strategy for TIP and the execution of that strategy in EMEA, including hiring and leading the TIP team to be based in London. She also continues to have leadership of the HCE team in EMEA. Maggie joined Ontario Teachers' in 2006 and has structured and executed on large-scale, partnership driven minority investments in both public and private companies in multiple sectors around the world. She holds a BBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University, is a Chartered Accountant, a CFA charterholder and a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors. Maggie reports to Jo Taylor with matrixed reporting to Olivia Steedman and Russell Hammond.
Kevin Mansfield leads the Consumer & Retail portfolio and team within Private Capital. He joined Ontario Teachers' in 2005 and has nearly two decades of private equity experience. Kevin has been involved in a number of notable transactions, including 24 Hour Fitness, Arterra Wines Canada and Helly Hansen. He currently serves on the boards of 24 Hour Fitness, Flynn Restaurant Group, BRG Sports and Plano Synergy Holding. Kevin holds a BBA from Wilfrid Laurier University and is a CFA charterholder. He reports to Romeo Leemrijse.
Blake Sumler leads the Industrials portfolio and team within Private Capital. He joined Ontario Teachers' in 2013 and has worked in private equity for more than 15 years. Blake has a broad investing background across multiple sectors and asset classes spanning both public and private markets. He currently sits on the boards of PODS and GFL Environmental Inc. Blake holds a BA and a Master of Accounting from the University of Waterloo, is a Chartered Accountant, a CFA charterholder and a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors. He reports to Romeo Leemrijse.
Ashvin Malkani leads the TMT portfolio and team within Private Capital out of our London office, which he will relocate to in August. He joined Ontario Teachers' in 2002 and has nearly 20 years of private equity investing experience. Ashvin has been involved in a number of transactions, including Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, North American Oil Sands Corporation, Ascend Learning and Metronode. He currently serves on the board of directors of 24-7 Intouch, Compass Datacenters, TierPoint, Premier Lotteries Ireland and Camelot Lottery Solutions. Ashvin received a BA from Western University and an MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University. He reports to Bo Cenanovic.
Jeff Markusson leads the Financial Services portfolio and team within Private Capital. He joined Ontario Teachers' in 2006 and has participated in a number of investments across the industrial, business services and financial services sectors. Jeff has worked with portfolio companies throughout the business cycle, effectively initiating value creation plan efforts. He currently serves on the boards of APCO, CSC ServiceWorks, Kanetix, Lancaster and Seacube. Jeff received a BA from Simon Fraser University, an MBA from the University of Toronto and is a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors. He reports to Bo Cenanovic.
Terry Woodward leads the Healthcare portfolio and team within Private Capital. He joined Ontario Teachers' in 2001 and has worked on dozens of investments and funds in venture capital, growth equity and private equity, including PetVet Care Centers, PhyNet Dermatology, Insight Pharmaceuticals, Heartland Dental Care and Inc Research. He also sits on several advisory boards and is the Chair of the Healthcare Private Equity Association. Terry holds a Ph.D. from McGill University and an MBA from Michigan State University. He reports to Bo Cenanovic.
