SGN: Improving worker safety with technology

Part of our infrastructure and natural resources portfolio, SGN distributes gas to six-million customers across the south of England and Scotland. We connected SGN with FYLD to help improve worker safety and efficiency in the field using technology. By collaborating through our incubator Koru, FYLD developed an app that has transformed the productivity and safety of utility field workers across the U.K.

The FYLD app enables real-time, data-driven decision making, allowing workers to capture and share photos, video and audio recordings, making jobsite collaboration, progress tracking and reporting a streamlined and paperless process. In an extremely fast period of growth, SGN had 750 of their workers using FYLD.

To enhance safety, FYLD's AI automatically assesses SGN jobsites for hazards, recommends solutions, sends alerts to proactively solve issues, and uses video recordings to create digital worksite dashboards and detailed risk assessments. During the pandemic, FYLD was key to remote job-management, allowing team leaders to understand and manage the progress of a job from their homes.
